Obituary

Philip (Dan) Wright, 83, of Granville Summit, passed away peacefully into the loving, outstretched arms of Jesus on May 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, he lived a life of marked faith, humility, and hard work. Born on November 4, 1942, in Elmira, NY, Dan dedicated much of his professional life at the IBM community, where he worked diligently for over 30 years. He took his work seriously and was proud to contribute to many national defense and aerospace programs, while also enjoying the IBM community and his many friendships made among his coworkers. Above all else, Dan cherished his family. He shared 66 years of marriage with the love of his life, Daisy (McNett) Wright. Together, they raised five children. Dan designed and built their house in Granville Summit. Their long and faithful marriage served as an example of commitment and grace to generations that followed. Conversations with Dan were rarely short as everyone knew…or learned. Dan talked off many ears, though few would consider the experience painful. He also never went anywhere without running into someone he knew or making a new acquaintance. Dan would strike up a conversation with anyone, usually under the pretense of thinking “he knows them”. Sometimes it turned out he really did know them; sometimes not, prompting his family to say “If Dad doesn’t know anyone when he gets somewhere, he will when he leaves.” He was the proud father of five children: Darla, Kris, Kelley, Matt and Michael. His legacy continues through his 14 grandchildren; Kaleb, Kourtni, Joshua, Gabrielle, Barry, Rachel, Marcie, Chance, Keegan, Grace, Jed, Asher, Tyler, and Eli. His legacy was enriched with the arrival of each of his 40 great-grandchildren. Known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Pa”, he was instrumental in many of their lives and is remembered as a source of fun, life advice and unconditional love. Dan treasured time spent with his family, which he usually used to tell stories, offering wisdom, or empathizing with life’s struggles. Dan was a source of calm and stability when life became chaotic or challenging. He was rarely rattled by the concerns of the day, often saying “things have a way of working out”. His ready wit could make work fun and stress melt away. He will be remembered for his warm heart, faithful spirit, strong work ethic, and the love he poured into his family each and every day. Dan will be deeply missed, even as his family celebrates his arrival in his new home with the Lord. He is survived by his beloved wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and sister Bonnie (Don) Dalia, brother-in-law Ed (Sharon) McNett, sisters in law Kay Collister and Barb Eck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Josephine [Rathbun} Wright and great-granddaughter, Lydia Boal. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. to Noon at the North Street Community Church, 177 North Street in Canton. A celebration of Dan’s life will follow at Noon. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hopegate, PO Box 42, Canton, PA 17724.
