Richard "Dick" Morgan, 80, of Canton, Pa. passed away Thursday evening, May 18, 2017 surrounded by family at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Dick was born March 5, 1937 in Shunk to Lester Morgan and Mary (Bohart) Morgan. After moving to Canton, he graduated from Canton High School and married Christine (Ambs) Rice in 1955 and had a long career in the town as a carpenter, handyman, railroad station worker, farmhand, butcher, and mechanic. He was known for his jokes and ready helping hand to family and friends. He was a long- time member of the Moose and competed in many horseshoe tournaments. He was a lifetime member of the Canton Fire Department.
Dick was known for his love of antique tools and machines. He constantly puttered around his yard on one of his tractors and could often be found in his garage fixing their motors. He had many other hobbies, including playing horseshoes, hunting, challenging friends at card games, bowling, listening to old country music, and playing with his grandbabies.
Dick is survived by his second wife Barbara (MacIntosh) Morgan; brother Ronald Morgan and sister in law Linda Morgan of Troy; his sister Gertrude (Morgan) Robinson of Painted Post, NY; his sister Marjorie (Morgan) Doud and brother in law Philip Doud of Canton; and his sister in law Myrtle (Brown) Morgan of Gillett. All four of Dick's children are surviving: son Richard Morgan Jr. and daughter in law Dana (Herb) Morgan; daughter Marie (Morgan) Watson and son in law Stephen Watson; son Robert Morgan and daughter in law Mary Saunders; and daughter Patricia (Morgan Hurd) Gurbal and son in law Rodger Gurbal. He is survived by nine grandchildren, Faith, Travis, John, Cole, Brian, Jessica, Blake, Grant, and Troy, and two great-grandchildren, RaeLynn and Jaxon.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Mary; three bother's, Harold (Shirley) Morgan of Canton; Harmon Morgan of Gillett; Morris (Deanna) Morgan of Mansfield; a sister, Geraldine (Morgan) Rathbun of Canton, and son-in-law, Mark Hurd.
Memorial services will be held at the Ward Methodist Church on Saturday, July 1 at 1 p.m. We will celebrate his life with some of Dick's favorites fudges and desserts afterward to remember his sweet tooth and tell our favorite stories about him.
