Obituary

Robert W. "Bob" Houseknecht, 80, of Blossburg, PA passed away on Monday evening, June 3, 2024, at the Green Home in Wellsboro, PA. Robert was born June 2, 1944, in Williamsport, a son of the late Harold and Clara (Hackling) Houseknecht. He attended Montoursville area schools. Bob was raised on the family's dairy farm in the beautiful Rose Valley area in Lycoming County where he worked for his parents, later sharing the inheritance of the farm with his two brothers, Charles and David. During this time Bob also worked for and served as Gamble Township Supervisor for several years.  A true farmer, Bob then worked as a farm hand for Steve Waltz and later the Ulmer farm until a haying accident no longer permitted him to continue.

Bob was an outdoors enthusiast, enjoying hunting, fishing and all of nature's beauty, but farming was his true passion. Even after he was unable to work Bob would sit and watch farmers work their fields. He possessed a keen sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.

Bob leaves behind his siblings; Sue (Bruce) Toothaker of Blossburg and David (Paula) Houseknecht of Chiefland, Fl., sisters-in-law; Virginia Houseknecht of Rose Valley, and Patricia Houseknecht of Columbia Cross Roads as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and the nursing home staff that was like family to Bob. They took great care of him.

Besides his parents Bob was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses; Harold Houseknecht, Chester (Sally) Houseknecht, Charles Houseknecht, Alvin (Ruth) Houseknecht and Janet (George) Bittner.

In keeping with Bob's wishes there will be no services. Burial in Rose Valley Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mr. Houseknecht's name may be directed to the Rose Valley United Methodist Church, 814 Ulmer Road, Trout Run, PA 17771.
