Romaine Muto, 81, beloved educator and well-known resident of Blossburg, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 18, 2017 at Broad Acres in Wellsboro, PA
.
Romaine was born in Morris Run, November 23, 1935, the last surviving of three daughters in the family of the late Alzy and Ann (Batulis) Lutomski.She attended Morris Run schools, graduated from North Penn High and received her Bachelors of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Lock Haven University in 1957.On August 23, 1958, Romaine married John Muto at the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morris Run.
During her 32-year teaching career at North Penn Jr.-Sr. High School, Mrs. Muto championed girls' sports for all ages. As the North Penn girls coach of volleyball, track and field and cheerleading, she was an instrumental part of North Penn School's sports program.Mrs. Muto also served as a PIAA Track official and was inducted into Tioga County's Sports Hall of Fame.In earlier years, Romaine was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and later Holy Child Parish.Other memberships included the Wheel Inn Club and a former member of Corey Creek and the Hamilton Club.Favorite hobbies included golfing and walking, especially at Island Park.She was a diehard fan of Crimson Tide Football at Alabama State University.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John; two children; John Muto of State College, Melinda (Dave) Moshier of Pine City, NY ; two grandchildren, Lindsey (Ash) Tice of Elmira and Peter Muto of Lexington, VA; a great grandchild, Skyler; her "daughter #2", Sharon Manikowski of Blossburg; special nieces, Lisa Owens of Colorado, Michelle Russell of Virginia and Pam (Bryant) Palmore of Virginia;
She was preceded in death by her two sisters and a brother-in-law; Linda Lutomski and Patricia and Tom Owens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m.Tuesday, Mar. 21, at St. Mary's Czestochowa Catholic Church.Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Blossburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Blossburg Memorial Library, 307 Main St. Blossburg, 16912.
