February 14, 1938 – March 17, 2025
Veronica A. (Seeley) Newell, 87, of Wellsburg, NY, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, while surrounded by the love of her family. Veronica Anjinette was born February 14, 1938, in Canton Township in the family home. A daughter of the late Clyde H. and Mildred L. (Smith) Seeley. She attended Canton Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1955. Veronica worked as a nanny in Washington D.C., and as a newborn specialist for Mothers Indeed in Northern Virginia. Veronica then was employed by Image Packaging in Horseheads until her retirement in 2004. Always taking care of people, Veronica was the caregiver for her parents until their passing.
Veronica enjoyed crocheting and reading. Taking care of children was something that truly held a special place in her heart. Veronica's most enjoyable times were those spent with her family.
Another of Veronica's interests was family genealogy. She was appointed Assistant Genealogist of the International Seeley Genealogical Society by the SGS President and served as a member of the SGS governing Board. Her Seeley lineage has been traced back to the 1500s in England. Additionally, she and 5 cousins assembled a compilation of her mother's Smith family, going back six generations. By 1998, she had assisted in 8 updates. Literally thousands of Seeley and Smith family members have benefited from her work.
Veronica leaves behind her children; Leo Newell Jr., Julie Newell, Becky Hardy, Jackie (Tom) Hickok, Valerie Phillips and Bill Newell, grandchildren; Larissa, Heidi, Holly and Cole, 9 great grandchildren, brother; Jim Seeley, a brother-in-law; Ralph Coppola, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Besides her parents, Veronica was predeceased by her siblings; Evelyn (Herbert) Anderson, Madeline Maynard, Betty Seeley, Melissa Coppola, Winifred (Bud) Smouther, Clyde T. (Joanne) Seeley, Wendall Seeley and Donna Seeley.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, from Noon to 1 P.M. at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A funeral service will follow at 1 P.M. with committal after in the Grover Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Veronica's name may be directed to the Alba First Christian Church, 74 Church Drive, Alba, PA 16910.
