IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayne R.
Fleming
January 29, 1941 – November 19, 2025
Wayne R. Fleming, 84, of Troy, PA, formerly of Towanda, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Elderwood in Waverly, NY, while surrounded by his family. Born January 29, 1941, in Granville Summit, Wayne was the son of the late Pete "P.F." Fleming and Helen (Packard) Fleming Brown. He attended Troy Area Schools and graduated with the Class of 1958. Shortly following graduation, he attended Barber School in Philadelphia.
In 1963, Wayne was drafted into the United States Army, serving nearly two years as a Military Police Officer. He was a former member of the Towanda American Legion Post 42, the Towanda Country Club and Corey Creek Golf Club.
Following his military service, Wayne became a well-known figure in the Towanda community known for owning and operating Fleming's Barber Shop for more than four decades. He was affectionately known as "Clipper" by long-time faithful customers who would come to the shop for a haircut, but stay for the conversation.
Wayne was an avid sports fan, attending many local sporting events throughout the years. His love of golf started when he and his Army buddies scaled a fence to watch Arnold Palmer win the 1964 Masters. After that there was no turning back. Wayne's love for golf was almost matched by his devotion to Philadelphia sports teams, he especially enjoyed going to Phillies games with his kids.
Wayne had a special fondness for playing cards, something he often did with his family. He loved reading, crossword puzzles and riding his bike. Known for his kindness and quick wit, he brought laughter to those around him. Above all, his greatest joy and deepest commitment was to his family, who meant the world to him.
Wayne leaves behind his children; Melissa Fleming (Glenn Leigh Shaffer) of Sayre, PA and Matthew Fleming (Jen Hawk) of Wilmington, DE, siblings; Larry (Kathie) Fleming of Granville Summit, PA and Linda (Mike) Whitford of Horseheads, NY as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Wayne was predeceased by; a brother Bob Fleming, sister; Marilyn Bruhl and a niece; Kimberly Sutfin.
Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of Wayne's life which will be announced at a later date. Burial, in Windfall Cemetery, will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
