Obituary

Grace S. Mott, 90, of Canton, PA and former longtime resident of LeRoy, passed away on Sunday evening, December 23, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira.


H. Grace Spencer was born on January 30, 1922 in Canton, the oldest of four children of the late Charles and Ada (Hill) Spencer. She graduated from Canton High School in 1940 and in 1943 graduated as a Registered Nurse from Robert Packer Hospital's School of Nursing. On November 10, 1943, Grace married Charles S. Mott. They shared 58 years together and raised five children before Charlie's passing on December 6, 2001.


Grace was employed as the Directressof Nursingat theTroy Community Hospital for over 30 years. Very active in the community, she enjoyed volunteering with the American Red Cross's Blood Mobile and LeRoy Township's Election Board. She also was instrumental with the Canton Senior Center's "Peppi" Exercise Program. Grace enjoyed attending the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) for many years. She was a member of Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, LeRoy Heritage Museum Association, the Red Hatters Lady's Club, a former member of the Open Hand Grange and the Lady Rebekah Group.


Grace was a devoted and caring person who would offer her help to anyone in need. She will be lovingly remembered as a good neighbor. A "community nurse" type, many would call on Grace with their health questions. She was blessed with a strong constitution and remained active all her life. Times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her favorite things to do. She also enjoyed knitting and word puzzles.


Surviving are her children, Sam (Linda) Mott of Chalfont, PA, Charlene (Frank) Corby of Elizabethtown, PA, Carol (Jim) Fitch of Troy, Max (Bev) Mott of Perkasie, PA and John C. (Brenda) Mott of Cogan Station; 17 grandchildren, Thomas (Dawn) Mott, David (Jennifer) Mott, Stephen (Katie) Mott, Leesa (Dennis) McIlhinney, Matthew Corby, Anthony Corby, Todd (Deborah) Fitch, Travis (Jaime) Fitch, Alisha (Donald) Wambolt, Shonna (Joshua) Shope, Tami (Robert) Shoemaker, Bryan (Pamela) Mott, Becky Dimmick, Charles (Adrienne) Mott, Reeve (Melanie)Mott, Nicholas Mott and Adam (Genna) Mott;


38 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Betty Teribury of Georgia,Betty Mott of Gilbertsville, PA and Ange Mott of California; many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and neighbors.


In addition to her husband Charlie, she was predeceased by three siblings; Betty Wakely, Doris Irving and Pete Spencer.


Calling hours are 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton and also from 11 - noon Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples), 40 N. Minnequa Ave. The funeral service will follow at noon with Rev. Bonnie Browning officiating. Interment will be private in the Mott Cemetery in LeRoy.
