Kenneth Knecht, Sr., longtime resident of Roaring Branch, PA passed away very peacefully on Wednesday morning, October 31, 2012 at Williamsport Hospital. He was 83 years old.
BornSept.16, 1929in the village of Leolyn, PA, McNett Twp., Kenny was the son of Wilson H. and Goldie (Jackson) Knecht. On Sept. 5, 1946, Kenny married his wife, Gladys V. Leonard and they raised 10 children. His beloved Gladys preceded him on Jan. 17, 2004. Kenny possessed a strong work ethic, he was a lumberman most of his life and retired from Cummings Lumber Company in Troy. Always devoted to his family's benefit, Kenny's life revolved around his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As a boy, Kenny worked hard with his father making hay using horse-drawn wagons. He loved the outdoors, ponies and horses. Kenny could play the harmonica and any stringed instrument. He played in a band known as "The Roaring Berg Four" for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Roaring Branch Hunting Club.
Surviving are his children, Kenneth Jr. (Barb) Knecht of Williamsport, Roger (Deanna) Knecht of Liberty, David (Paulette) Knecht, Cindy (John) Edkin, Debbie Knecht Brown, Mary (Danny) Route, Lori (Dean) Confer, and Michelle Knecht Castle all of Roaring Branch; two sons-in-law, Earl Moretz Jr. of Millerton and Paul Hoffman of Roaring Branch; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren; two siblings, Wilson (Helen) Knecht of Canton and Mary Ann (John) Mesko of Wilmington, DE and a sister-in-law, Audrey Jennelle of Canton, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He was predeceased by Gladys, his wife of 57 years and two daughters; Carolyn Sue "Tink" Hoffman on Aug. 22, 2007 and Sandra Lee Moretz on Jan. 30, 2008.
Family invites friends to call 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton. Rev. David Egger will officiate the funeral service following at 3:00. Interment will be private
in Grover Cemetery. Those who wish may consider a memorial in Kenny's name to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St. Williamsport, PA 17701.
