Obituary

Marion Frey, 96, life-long resident of Shunk, PA was called home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013 from the Twin Oaks Personal Care Home in Granville Summit.


Marion H. Brown Frey was born in Shunk on April 24, 1917. She was one of seven children in the family of the late John Lewis and Mary Anna (Bartlow) Brown. Marion was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was happiest when keeping busy. She was a woman whose guide in life was her love for the Lord. Marion read her Bible daily and was an active member of the Shunk United Methodist Church, the church's Ladies Aide and Secret Pal groups. She was a 4-H leader and was recognized for being a 50-year plus voter. Marion and her husband Kenneth loved to travel. In addition to visiting all 50 states, they traveled to England, Ireland, Canada, Mexico and Australia. She was an avid reader who always enjoyed mastering a new project. Some of Marion's favorite hobbies included word find puzzles, flowers, quilting, needlework and beading. She rode her first Farris-wheel ride a couple years ago and explained now she knew why the kids like it so. Marion will be remembered by all who loved her for proudly earning the distinction of the oldest "life-long Shunk-Ite".


Surviving are her children, Dolores Hartford (Bob Longnecker) of Troy, Ronald Frey of Shunk,Miles Frey (Michael Alexander) of Houston, TX, Gene (Suzanne) Frey of Glidden, WI and Elaine Frey (Walt Wolfe) of Troy, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Gilbert of Forksville and Beatrice Bailey of Boonville, NY; a sister-in-law, Irene Foust of Montoursville, many nieces, nephews and cousins.


In addition to her husband Kenneth, she was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Frey; a grandson, Ronald M. Frey and four siblings; Maybelle Myers, Mildred Morgan, Leona Frey and John L. Brown II; two daughters-in-law and a son-in-law; Dorothy Frey, Margaret Frey and Dean Hartford.



Friends are invited to call Friday, May 24, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton. The funeral service will be held at the Shunk United Methodist Church, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 with her pastor, Rev. Jerry Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. The family will provide flowers and suggest your consideration of a memorial in Mrs. Frey's name to Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Rd. Towanda, PA 14484 or to the Shunk U.M. Church, P.O. Box 70 Shunk, PA 17768.
