Sandra "Sonny" May's Obituary

Sondra L. May, 73, of LeRoy, PA (wife of Claude "Butch" May) was called home on Monday evening, April 11, 2011, from the Darway Elder Care Home in Estella, PA.

Sondra Loper, "Sonny" to family and friends, was born on September 30, 1937 in Bridgeton, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Ralph David and Claire Elizabeth (Miller) Loper. Sonny married Claude V. "Butch" May on January 9, 1971 in Franklinville, NJ. She worked at Canton's Canford Manufacturing for a time before she and Butch lived in Idaho Falls, ID from 1987 until 2010.

Times shared with family and caring for home were most important in Sonny's life.

She will be lovingly remembered as a quiet person, not the type to be comfortable in crowds. Sonny enjoyed camping, traveling, cross-stitch and crocheting. Her canine companions brought her much happiness

In addition to her husband Butch, surviving are her daughter, Cheryl (Lawrence) Sheatler of Watsontown, PA; five grandchildren, Misty, Derick, Julie, Amanda and Erica, two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bud (Virginia) Loper of Boise, ID; a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Cleon Vanderpool of Canton, Clay May of Chenango Forks, NY and Steve May of Baltimore, MD, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is her devoted dog, "BB Ann".

Sondra was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Loper and two sisters-in-law, Nancy Bassett and Norma Simcoe.

A memorial service to honor a beautiful life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive, Canton with Rev. Ronnie Bly officiating. Burial will be private.
